The Black Saw-wing is a member of the swallow family and is distributed in central Africa, south-east South Africa and Ethiopia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in a variety of habitats but usually near water.

There are several sub-species which are sometimes split into distinct species. I believe that these photos are of the sub-species P. p. blanfordi.
