The Hooded Vulture is distributed in tropical Africa with the exception of the Congo Basin. It is found in a wide variety of habitats and is normally close to human settlements. Because of its rapidly declining population it is classified as Endangered by Birdlife International. This is due to hunting, persecution, poisoning and loss of habitat.
