 |
Monks Eleigh, Suffolk, England
The Red-legged Partridge is distributed in France, Spain, Portugal and north-west Italy. It has been
introduced into other parts of Europe including Britain as a game bird. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. |
 |
It is found in farmland, heathland, coastal meadows and similar grassy habitats
where it feeds on seeds, leaves, grass and roots.
It is distinguished from the similar Rock Partridge
Alectoris graeca by the broad, black-streaked breast band or "neck shawl" which is a single solid
line in the Rock Partridge. The Rock Partridge is found in south-east Europe.
