The Little Kingfisher is distributed in Papua New Guinea and nearby islands and into northern and north-eastern Australia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in mangroves, swamps, creeks and streams in woodland and forest.
|A tiny kingfisher, it feeds in tiny fish, shrimps, water beetles and insect larvae which it catches in a shallow dive then returns to its perch to consume the catch.|
