|Northern Fantail Rhipidura isura
(aka Rhipidura rufiventris)
|Howard Springs, Northern Territory, Australia
The Northern Fantail is distributed in New Guinea and surrounding islands and in the north of Australia from Broome, WA to north-east Queensland. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open mixed forest, on the edge of rainforest and in mangroves.
|It is differentiated from the Grey Fantail R. albiscapa by the absence of
white on the face apart from an eyebrow streak and the broad grey breast band with white streaks. They also fan their tails much less and have a more
upright posture when perched.
