The Black-headed Hemispingus is distributed in the Andes from the extreme west of Venezuela through Colombia and Ecuador to the extreme north of Peru. See the distribution map at NatureServe.
|It is found near the tree-line in wet montane forest and mossy elfin forest at between 3,000 and 3,600 metres in Colombia.|
