The Blue-tailed Emerald is distributed in much of the north of South America and are found in fairly open habitats up to about 2,200 metres. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.
|A small hummingbird, the male has an all black bill and a slightly forked blue tail. The female has a masked appearance and whitish tips to the tail.|
