The Glossy-black Thrush is distributed in the Andes from northern Venezuela to north-western Argentina. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found mainly at between 1,500 and 2,800 metres in forest and at forest edges. It is primarily arboreal and rarely seen on the ground.
