The Golden-headed Quetzal is distributed in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in humid forest at between 1,200 and 3,000 metres.

The golden tinge to the head and the yellow bill indicate that this is a male bird.
