The Helmeted Manakin is distributed in central Brazil and adjacent areas of north-east Bolivia and north-east Paraguay. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is mainly found in gallery woodland in the cerrado grasslands.

The female shows the frontal crest and the long tail. Photos 1 and 2 were the first register of this species in the area of the Chapada Diamantina of Bahia.

The male in photo 3 is striking with its black body and bright red "helmet"
