The Lemon-chested Greenlet is distributed in north-west South America with a disjunct population in south-east Brazil from southern Bahia to Rio de Janeiro. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. Some authorities such as HBW and Birdlife International checklist have split the south-eastern form from Lemon-chested Greenlet, calling it the Rio de Janeiro Greenlet, on the basis of several morphological and vocal differences. The two striking features of this bird are its white to pale yellow iris and the broad yellow-olive band across its chest. It is bright olive above with a grey nape and chin. The bill and the legs in the Rio de Janeiro race are grey unlike the Lemon-bellied Greenlet in the north-west where they are pinkish-grey.
