The Lined Seedeater breeds in the interior of south-east and central Brazil, Paraguay, south-east Bolivia and northern Argentina. During the austral winter it migrates across the Amazon Basin to northern South America. There is a distribution map at xeno-canto.

Male Lined Seedeater, Aguas de São Pedro, São Paulo, Brazil, December 2006 - click for larger image The male, shown here, is black above with a white crown stripe and white malar streak looking a bit like a moustache. It also has a white wing speculum. Underparts are white.

The female is olive-brown above and buffy-yellow below with a yellowish bill.
