|Peruvian Pigeon Patagioenas oenops
(aka Maranon Pigeon)
The Peruvian Pigeon is endemic to Peru where it is restricted to the arid middle and upper Marañón valley. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in riverside forest with willow and pepper trees.
Because of its restricted range and small population it is classified as Vulnerable.
|It is similar to Pale-vented Pigeon P. cayennensis but is darker with
undertail coverts the same colour as its belly and lacking a pale terminal band on the tail. The red base to the pale bill is also diagnostic.
