The Vinaceous-breasted Amazon is distributed from Espirito Santo to the northern part of Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil and adjacent areas of Paraguay and Argentina. See the distribution map at xeno-canto.

Vinaceous-breasted Amazon, Campos do Jordao, Sao Paulo, Brazil, October 2022 - click for larger image It is found in the Atlantic Rain Forest and is particularly associated with Araucaria woodlands (Parana Pine) as it feeds on the seeds and uses the trees for nest holes.

It is classified as Endangered because of habitat loss, capture for the pet trade and human exploitation of the Parana Pine seeds.
